OSWEGO, NY – With Budweiser International Classic Weekend just weeks away at Oswego Speedway, preparation for the $1,500 to win 602 Crate Dirt Sportsman “Sizzler” continues at the fast 5/8 mile paved oval.
With the race teams in mind, Oswego Speedway announced today a Sportsman only test session scheduled for this Sunday, August 19 from noon – 4 p.m.
A makeup date of August 26 is available, should the initial session be postponed. Oswego Speedway’s track championship night set for Saturday, August 18 has a scheduled rain date of August 19. Should that date need to be used to complete the Speedway regular season, the Sportsman session would move to August 26 from noon – 4 p.m.
“We are happy to invite the Sportsman teams to the Speedway a week or so in advance of the “Sizzler” to allow them some time on the race track,” said Oswego Speedway co-owner Eric Torrese. “The session will allow teams to get acclimated with the facility, the racing surface, and the speeds. We believe this will go a long way in being able to continue to promote a very exciting and safe race here at the ‘Steel Palace’ come Classic Weekend.”
As the interest and excitement continues to build for this historical Classic Weekend event at the Speedway on Friday, August 31, so too does the amount on the line for the competitors involved.
It was recently announced that the highest finishing Sportsman on Hoosier Racing Tires in the “Sizzler” will be eligible for a preferred starting spot in the always demanding Sportsman Championship as a part of Super DIRT Week XLI at the New York State Fairground’s ‘Moody Mile.’
With no asphalt tires or slicks allowed in the “Sizzler,” teams must compete on either Hoosier Racing Tire or American Racer dirt modified tread tires.
Another added incentive in the event comes from Finish Line Web Design, which will offer a $100 bonus to the highest finishing Sportsman from Brockville, Can-Am, Cornwall, or Mohawk speedways.
Dirt 602/Crate engine Sportsman rules will be strictly enforced for this event, which boasts a hefty $7,300 purse with $75 tow money awarded to any non-qualifier.
