OSWEGO, NY – As the seasons change so do the colorful murals on the front windows at the Oswego  JP Penney store.

The windows had been black-out years a go when the store went through a remodel and they created additional shelf space along the front wall.

Last winter, Carol Peters, the store manager, approached Kristen Slimmer, (city) Youth Activities Coordinator – for the Oswego City-County Youth Bureau, with an idea.

“She asked about doing an on-going, year-round mural project on the windows,” Slimmer told Oswego County Today.

The store will designate the theme per season, she said.

During the holidays, they created snowman themed artwork. Now they replaced that with murals heralding the arrival of spring.

Slimmer put out the painting opportunity to the older youth groups, city and county Youth Court as well as Leadership Oswego County Youth class.

Some of the kids will also be involved later this summer in the mural program along the city’s west riverwalk.

The store provided a warm, dry place as well as snacks and hot cocoa for the young artists.
