St. John Fisher knocks off Laker men’s lacrosse team

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The Oswego State men’s lacrosse team (6-6) fell behind early, and the Lakers were never able to completely erase their deficit in a 9-6 loss to St. John Fisher (9-4) Wednesday afternoon.

Despite owning a 13-4 advantage on faceoffs, Oswego State managed just 16 shots on goal and went 0-for-6 in man-up situations.

Cardinal Brett Farrell scored two of his four goals on the day to bookend the first quarter scoring with Connor Khammar (So., Camillus, N.Y.) tallying his 11th goal of the season less than five minutes into the game following an assist from Nick Giampaolo (Jr., Setauket, N.Y.). However, St. John Fisher also received a goal from Michael Boisvert to make the score, 3-1, in favor of the home team at the end of the frame.

Farrell continued to have the hot hand at the start of the second quarter, but goals from Chris Porten (Jr., Auburn, N.Y.) and Ben Morrill (So., Webster, N.Y.) two minutes apart pulled Oswego State back to within one at 4-3. The Cardinals responded with markers from Boisvert and Kevin DeOrdio that sandwiched Jimmy Cordon’s (So., Camillus, N.Y.) 22nd goal of the year to carry a 6-4 lead into halftime.

The Lakers’ Dylan DiFante (So., Webster, N.Y.) made it a one-goal contest 5:31 into the third frame, but Farrell fed Scott Campbell with a pass in the final minute to regain St. John Fisher’s two-goal cushion heading into the fourth quarter.

Oswego State won the opening faceoff allowing Cody Hoose (So., Syracuse, N.Y.) to set up Giampaolo for his 12th goal of the season 22 seconds into the stanza. However, Jeff Webster scored with 9:08 on the clock and Farrell sealed the win with a goal six minutes later for the Cardinals.

Neither team was successful on man-up opportunities as St. John Fisher was 0-for-4.

Troy Crevier (Fr., Webster, N.Y.) led the Lakers with six groundballs, while Bryan Martin (Jr., St. James, N.Y.) stopped 12 shots. St. John Fisher’s Jamie Campagna finished the game with 10 saves.
