ROCHESTER, N.Y. – In the second straight road game of the season, the Oswego State men’s lacrosse team fell to nationally-ranked St. John Fisher, 11-3, at Growney Stadium in Rochester on Tuesday. The Lakers dropped to 0-2 overall, while the Cardinals improved to 3-0.
Three minutes and three seconds into the game, the Cardinals struck first with Ryan Schmidt’s fourth goal of the season. St. John Fisher rattled off three more goals in the first period with tallies by Connor Henderson, Kyle Denhoff, and Mitch Ritchie.
St. John Fisher started the third period with a 6-0 lead before Oswego State’s Chad Smith found the back of the net for the first Laker goal of the game to end the shutout but. That would be as close as Oswego State would get, though, despite a goal from Bobby Horan as the Cardinals added five more goals in the quarter for an 11-2 lead.
The Lakers controlled the fourth quarter, outshooting St. John Fisher 12-0, but were only able to get one goal on the board from the stick of Mark Briggs, as St. John Fisher posted the win behind four goals from Connor Henderson.
Oswego State struggled in man-up situations, as the Lakers went 0-for-10 with the extra attacker. The Cardinals went 2-for-5 on man-up opportunities.
Laker goalie Ian O’Brien suffered the loss after making six saves, while Cardinal goalie Matt McShea picked up the win with seven stops.
Oswego State looks to rebound Wednesday, March 16 against Wesley College in Dover, Delaware at 4 p.m.
