OSWEGO, N.Y. – It was a simple pattern. When St. Lawrence (12-4) opened an inning with a base hit, it scored at least one run. Oswego State (8-13) gave up four lead-off hits in a 6-2 non-conference loss to the Saints at Laker Baseball Field on Wednesday.
Down 1-0, the Lakers scored both of their runs in the bottom of the second to take over the lead.
Alex Jurczynski (Jr., Schenectady, N.Y.) drew a one-out walk and Brian Hamilton (Fr., Liverpool, N.Y.) singled to right to start the rally. Andrew Lazzaro (Jr., Oswego, N.Y.) added one more single to load the bases for Steve Roman (Sr., Middleton, N.Y.).
Roman came through with a single that scored both Jurcyznski and Hamilton to put the Lakers up 2-1. However, an around-the-horn double play ended the inning quickly.
The lead was short lived, though. The Saints opened the top of the third with a single and plated runs with a RBI double and a run-scoring wild pitch for a 3-2 advantage.
The Lakers left two runners on in the bottom of the third and another in the fifth inning as they tried to knot the game up at three.
St. Lawrence would be the next to score, though. Opening the seventh inning with a single, it used a pair of sacrifice flies to go up 5-2. The Saints added one more run in the eighth, while the Laker offense went quiet in the late innings.
Five different Lakers had singles in the game, while Adam Bishop (Jr., Camillus, N.Y.) struck out four in four and two-thirds innings on the mound in the loss. Brady Farkas (Sr., Clifton Park, N.Y.) added a pair of strikeouts in two innings as the fourth Oswego State pitcher in the game.
