For residents and family members at St. Luke Health Services, Food Service Director John Tombolillo and Food Production Manager Jon McElroy are known for providing exceptional service. Now, the pair has been recognized for their professionalism and accomplishments by one of the largest food service providers in the country.
Both culinary professionals were recently honored by their parent company Sodexo, which provides food services at St. Luke, as well as a host of other organizations across the country. The pair recently traveled to a regional conference held in Atlantic City to receive their awards, where over two hundred and fifty of their peers were in attendance.
Tombolillo and McElroy were honored as part of Sodexo’s CARES program. CARES represent the behaviors Sodexo seeks from its employees at every level of the organization to display in their interactions with patients, residents, families, visitors, staff members and, each other.
Tombolillo also received an award as “Rookie General Manager of the Yearâ€Â, where he competed with managers from twenty-nine other states.
Tombolillo, a well recognized and respected member of the local culinary community took over as Food Service Director at St. Luke one year ago. The career move, he says, from the restaurant business where he has over twenty-five years experience as an owner, chef and manager was driven by the need for culinary expertise in the health care field.
Tombolillo’s creativity and professionalism have made him a success overseeing the food service operations at St. Luke, where he is responsible for ensuring all two-hundred residents are not only well-nourished on a daily basis, but that they also look forward to, and enjoy the dining experience as an important part of their daily activities.
McElroy began his career in the food service industry while serving in the United States Navy. He attended Johnson & Wales Culinary School, graduating in 1994. After gaining experience on the “chef circuit†McElroy joined Sodexo in 2007.
“We are very proud of the accomplishments of our Food Service managers and the entire Food Service staff,†said St. Luke CEO and Administrator Terrence Gorman. “This award reflects the hard work and constant attention to our resident’s needs for which St. Luke has become known – congratulations to John and Jon.â€Â
