Police – Parking Lot Death Was ‘Natural Causes’

OSWEGO, NY – At approximately 2:49 p.m. on Sunday, Oswego City Police responded to 140 State Route 104, the Oswego Plaza, for a report of an unresponsive man in a parked motor vehicle.

Upon arrival responding officers observed a white 1997 Ford Contour, parked with the engine off, with a white man slumped over the steering wheel.

Upon gaining entry to the vehicle, Oswego City Fire Department Emergency Medical personnel determined the man to be obviously deceased.

The area was secured and members of the Oswego City Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division were called to the scene.

Subsequent investigation identified the victim as 51-year-old Bruce Hawthorne, of 240 E. Ninth St., Oswego.

There were no apparent signs of foul play and the victim was removed to the Onondaga County Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy.

The vehicle was impounded by police.

Today (May 23), the Medical Examiner’s preliminary forensic autopsy report determined the victim to have died of natural causes.
