State Police Make Arrests In Four Cases Spanning Two Counties

On April 26, 2016, State Police in Pulaski responded to a larceny complaint on Minckler Road in the town of Mexico.

The victim reported several items stolen from her residence.

Troopers and investigators with the Bureau of Criminal Investigation began their investigation into the suspect, 24-year-old Thomas J. Cocopoti III from 65 W. Fourth St., Fulton, NY, for larceny and for violating an order of protection the victim had against Cocopoti.

While investigators followed up on leads in the Mexico case, State Police in Lysander responded to a larceny in progress at Runnings on State Route 31 in the town of Clay on June 5, 2016, at 5:46 p.m.

Investigation at the scene revealed two men had entered the store and concealed packages of batteries in their clothing, then left the store without paying for the merchandise.

A cashier and a customer in the store attempted to apprehend one of the men, and the customer was subsequently dragged a short distance by the suspect vehicle as they fled the scene.

The customer was not injured.

While Lysander Troopers attempted to identify the two suspects, State Police in Fulton responded to a larceny complaint at Ace Hardware on State Route 3 in the town of Volney on June 6, 2016.

Store employees reported that on June 3, two males had entered the store, selected boxes of sink faucets and left the store without rendering payment for the merchandise.

State Police from Lysander and Fulton identified the two suspects from the Volney and Clay larcenies as Thomas J. Cocopoti III, and 25-year-old Adam M. Hamilton from 13 Lawrence St., Oswego, NY.

On June 12, State Police in Fulton located and arrested Hamilton.

He was charged with Petit Larceny, a class “A” misdemeanor and Falsifying Business Records 1st degree, a class “E” felony.

He was arraigned in the Town of Palermo Court and remanded to the Oswego County Jail in lieu of $2,500 cash or $5,000 bond.

On June 22, State Police in Lysander arrested Hamilton and charged him with Petit Larceny and Conspiracy 6th degree, a class “B” misdemeanor.

He was arraigned in the Town of Clay Court and is scheduled to return on July 5, 2016.

State Police continued their search for Cocopoti, and on June 20, State Police in Pulaski received another complaint in which he was the suspect, in the village of Mexico.

The victim reported she had allowed Cocopoti to take her vehicle for repairs.

Cocopoti did not return the vehicle after several days and the victim was unable to contact or locate him.

On June 29, State Police in Fulton located Cocopoti in the city of Fulton.

He was taken into custody and charged with Petit Larceny, a class “A” misdemeanor, for the Ace Hardware theft.  State Police in Pulaski then charged him with Petit Larceny and Criminal Contempt 2nd degree, both class “A” misdemeanors for the town of Mexico theft.

He was also charged with Grand Larceny 4th degree, a class “E” felony, for the stolen vehicle.

He was arraigned in the Town of Volney Court, and remanded to the Oswego County Jail pending a court appearance on July 5.

On June 30, State Police in Lysander charged Cocopoti with Petit Larceny and Conspiracy 6th degree, both misdemeanors, for the theft at Runnings.

He is scheduled to appear in the Town of Clay Court on July 12, 2016 regarding those charges.
