Steelhead Expert Discusses Fishing Strategy Sept. 26 at Altmar Hatchery

ALTMAR – The Lake Ontario Tributary Anglers Council will sponsor a fishing seminar on Friday at the Salmon River Hatchery.

This seminar is being held as part of the National Hunting and Fishing Day celebration.

There will be a social hour at 6 p.m. with the presentation to begin at 7 p.m.

Joe Goodspeed, an innovative angler and expert in fly tying, will present “Steelhead Topics.”

He will discuss some unconventional strategies to target the wise and wary four-year-old steelhead that are often more likely to get foul hooked than to bite.

His explanation of pressured fish behavior, the hierarchy of fish positioning, and the way fishing pressure influences what food sources steelhead choose to eat will be thought provoking for any tributary anglers that target steelhead, regardless of fishing style or method.

The Salmon River Hatchery is located at 2133 County Route 22, in Altmar.
