MEXICO – Students in Robyn Yorker’s class at the Stepping Stones Day Program hope they received enough votes to win the “Made by Milk” carton construction contest.
Six students of “The Blue Team” in her classroom created a bear sculpture out of empty milk cartons.
They requested people save the cartons and then spread the word about voting, which ended Dec. 11.
Contest winners of various categories will be announced Jan. 6.
Yorker’s class could receive a cash prize up to $5,000.
Prize money would be used toward the purchase of materials for an indoor greenhouse and sensory equipment.
The project-based learning activity coincides with the English Language Arts module about the Haudenosaunee Native Americans.
Stepping Stones Day Program is a collaborative effort between CiTi and Hillside Children’s Center, which provides a structured, small-group environment to help students overcome emotional and behavioral challenges so they may return to their home school district.
