“In 2010, 38,364 suicides were reported, making suicide the 10th leading cause of death for Americans. In that year, someone in the country died by suicide every 13.7 minutes,” said AFSP of CNY Area Director Debra Graham. “Events such as this one not only help raise awareness about this public health issue, but also raises funds to educate health care providers, provide support to survivors and conduct scientific research.”
The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention is the leading national not-for-profit organization exclusively dedicated to understanding and preventing suicide through research, education and advocacy, and to reaching out to people with mental disorders and those impacted by suicide.
