Students at APW Elementary Celebrate Reading

Some things in life just go together… peanut and jelly… cookies and milk… and pajamas and good book!

To celebrate this comfy combination the students at APW Elementary School were invited to wear pajamas to school on the day before Christmas vacation and bring with them their favorite stuffed animal and book.

Altmar-Parish-Williamstown Elementary School fifth grade students Chelsey Sweeting and Holly Meagher found some comfy spots to read during their school’s ‘Drop Everything and Read’ time.

The literacy-infused day is known as DEAR (Drop Everything And Read) as was kicked off with a special reading of The Night Before Christmas during the morning announcements.

Then, at various times throughout the day, sleigh bells jingled over the intercom signaling students to take a break from their work and snuggle up for several minutes of quiet time with their reading buddy and book.

Principals Michael McAuliff and Julie Woolson also visited several classrooms throughout the day to read stories and then the students ended the day assembled in the school’s dining room for a special reading of The Polar Express.
