Granby Elementary students participated in a Flag Day celebration on Friday, June 13th honoring the 231st birthday of the American Flag.

Joined by staff and members of the Fulton District Office, students in kindergarten through 6th grade crowded around the flag pole as James Weinhold, Bruno Kramarz, Charles Callen, Albert Breeze, and Donald Kitts, members of the VFW Post 569, raised the flag.

Principal Barb Hubbard led the students in reciting the Pledge of Alliance and spoke about the significance of the American Flag, flag etiquette, and how to properly respect and honor the flag. Kyla Freeman (6th grade) and Lily Wright (2nd grade) accompanied by Stephany Collins from the music department on the piano sang the national anthem.

Following that, Marysia Czachor’s third grade class recited the Preamble to the United States Constitution. As students and staff members dispersed from the courtyard, sixth grade students Casey Shannon on the clarinet, Meriah Dishaw on the violin, and Alisia Sciacca on the clarinet played some patriotic music.
