Students, RSVP Counselors Assist Taxpayers at Oswego County Locations

OSWEGO — SUNY Oswego students continue a 12-year tradition, joining retiree volunteers at two of six locations around Oswego County where residents of all ages can find tax-preparation assistance and tax counseling.

The School of Business students team with Retired Senior Volunteers Program members to staff sessions at Fulton’s County Workforce Career Center and Oswego City Library, in cooperation with the Internal Revenue Service, the state Department of Taxation and Finance, and the American Association of Retired People.

This year’s dates and locations are as follows:

Constantia: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursdays through April 8, by appointment, at St. Bernadette’s Church on State Route 49. Call Bernadette’s Bistro, 623-9803, Tuesday through Thursday for an appointment.

Fulton: 9 a.m. to noon and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays through April 14 at the Fulton Municipal Building, 141 S. First St.; and 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesdays through April 13 at the County Workforce Career Center, Oswego County Building, State Route 481 across from Mimi’s.

Oswego: 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesdays through April 13 at the McCrobie Civic Center, 41 Lake St.; and noon to 5 p.m. Saturdays (except March 13 and 20) through April 9 at Oswego City Library, E. 2nd St.

Phoenix: Weekdays by appointment at Phoenix Public Library, 34 Elm St. Call 695-2553, 458-1465 or 934-4333 for an appointment.

Taxpayers need to bring completed forms for the 2008 tax year, as well as 2009 W-2s, 1099s, unemployment compensation statements, all forms indicating federal income taxes paid, dependent care provider information (name, employer, Social Security number and amount spent for services), all receipts or canceled checks for itemized deductions, and Social Security or individual identification cards for the taxpayer, spouse and dependents. Homeowners need to bring property tax receipts for 2009.
