BALDWINSVILLE, NY – Racers and fans came out in large numbers this past weekend at the Great Northern Mall in Clay, NY to bench race in anticipation of the 2012 season.
In a couple of cases because of the visibility in the public eye, drivers were able to pick up new sponsorship that might otherwise not been available if it wasn’t for the show. It just goes to show the value of a mall show as you never know who might be walking through.
“We had a steady stream of people all weekend and even had questions from possible new fans,“ said Cory Reed marketing director for the speedways. “When they saw 18 years old and younger are free was a big drawing card.”
The Speedways would like to thank the following drivers who took the time to bring their cars to the show. (Tracey Road Equipment Big Block Modifieds) – Larry Wight, Billy Decker ( SUNY Canton Sportsman) – Katelyn Kane , Jordan Bennett, Ron Davis III, Tony Finch II, Jeremy Pitcher, Scott Ford, Bailey Groves, Rocco Leone, Kris Vannorstrand (NAPA Late Model) – Mike Vaughn (Nationwide Insurance IMCA Modified) – Rob Keller, Andy Kieffer (Four Cylinder Stock) – Colby Herzog, Mark Johnston, Skip DeGroff (Pizza Logs 600 Sprint) – Dylan Zacharias. In appreciation the participants will be receiving four complementary pit admissions.
Now that the show season is over it’s time to get to what we all love, hitting the tracks and slinging clay. Fulton Speedway will be holding an open practice in less than two weeks on Saturday, April 7th at 2:00. One week later is the season opener April 14th featuring the Methanol Meltdown for the Patriot Sprints presented by A-Verdi Storage Containers. A huge field of 360 Sprints is expected with it being the first race in NY State for the division. Also on the race card will be an Outlaw 200 Weekend Qualifier for the SUNY Canton Sportsman and NAPA Late Models. The first green flag for the 2012 season will be at 4:00pm to get the fans and teams on their way home early.
The Brewerton Speedway will kick off the season with an open practice on Tuesday, April 17th at 6:30. The “D-Shaped Dirt Demon” kicks into high gear three days later with the season opener Friday, April 20th presented by Ehrlich Pest Control featuring the Tracey Road Equipment Big Block Modifieds that saw 12 different feature winners at one of the toughest tracks in the Northeast. Also on the race card will be the Nationwide Insurance IMCA Modifieds, Beaver River Distribution ESDCA Mod Lites and Four Cylinder Super Stocks. Gates will swing open at 5:30 with the first green flag to wave at 7:30.
