OSWEGO, NY – December 10 will be a special day for the United Way of Greater Oswego County as they will be the honored guests at both the SUNY Oswego Lakers Women’s Ice Hockey game at 3 p.m. against Sacred Heart and the SUNY Oswego Lakers Men’s Ice Hockey game at 7 p.m. against Utica.
Representatives from the United Way will be on hand to drop the puck for both games at the SUNY Oswego Campus Center.
Those attending the games are asked to please bring a donation of a non-perishable food item as the ice hockey teams are conducting a food drive for the United Way that will benefit food pantries throughout Oswego County.
Executive Director of the United Way of Greater Oswego County, Melanie Trexler, is looking forward to being a part of the excitement of Laker hockey.
“We are very appreciative of the partnership that we have fostered with SUNY Oswego and coaches Diane Dillon and Ed Gosek. They have been strong supporters of the United Way and we are happy that they are helping raise awareness of the United Way and the important impact our annual campaign has on the quality of life in Oswego County,” she said.
In addition to the food drive there will be an open “Holiday Skate” with the teams on Dec. 12 from 1 to 3 p.m.
Members of both the men’s and women’s teams will be on hand to sign autographs and skate with those who attend.
Admission is only $3 per person and includes skate rental.
Proceeds will benefit the United Way of Greater Oswego County.
Timothy Hale, director of athletics at SUNY Oswego, a long-time supporter of the United Way, is proud to be associated with the agency.
“The partnership between SUNY Oswego and the United Way is important because of the role the college plays in the County of Oswego. As a large employer and a center of education for thousands of students, Oswego has the opportunity to be a leader in supporting those in the human service needs of our community. Through the United Way hockey night at the Campus Center Ice Arena and other efforts on campus we help make people aware of the needs of many in the county and of the good work the United Way does in addressing those needs,” he said.
“United Way of Greater Oswego County is a leader in recognizing and addressing the needs of others. Through its partnerships with charitable agencies throughout the county, the Success by 6 initiative and its many other services and activities, United Way of Greater Oswego County has had a very positive impact on thousands of families in our area. I am proud to have been a United Way contributor for the last 25 years,” he added.
Tickets for all SUNY Oswego Laker men’s and women’s ice hockey games may be purchased at the Campus Center Box Office, on the concourse near the plaza entrance and ice arena.
The box office is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
