SUNY Oswego Metro Center to offer workshop on resumes, LinkedIn profiles

OSWEGO — A two-session workshop from 6 to 8 p.m. May 16 and 23, at the SUNY Oswego Metro Center in Syracuse will advise people on better positioning themselves in the job market.

The Internet has changed the job search process, placing a premium on knowing how to create and structure a resume and online profile that highlights unique competencies and appropriately differentiates candidates from one another, organizers said.

“High Impact Resumes and LinkedIn Profiles,” led by trainer Paula Behm at the Metro Center, 2 Clinton Square, will engage participants in several individual and group activities to help them design and utilize a high-impact resume and a LinkedIn profile based on individual employment and career goals.

“This is not your typical resume-writing class. We expect this program will be of interest to people just entering the workforce as well as to people who are interested in seeking advancement or re-careering,” said Dr. Kimberly Armani, SUNY Oswego Metro Center director.

The workshops will include facilitated discussions, self-reflection exercises, real-world examples, interactive practice and opportunities to ask questions, receive feedback and share strategies and techniques.

Participants will receive a pre-assignment before and an extended activity between the two workshop sessions to allow time to practice, reflect and complete a draft resume.

By the end of the two workshops, participants will be able to communicate verbally and in writing their career accomplishments using the Problem-Action-Result approach, design a high-impact resume and build or edit their LinkedIn Profile to realize maximum benefit in today’s employment market, organizers said.

Cost for the two-day workshop is $75 per person, with discounts available to SUNY Oswego students and alumni.
