A long and proud tradition at SUNY Oswego, the Miss-a-Meal events were preceded by the “Bread for the World” events held in the early ’70s and the “Sacrifice a Meal” event held in 1960 for the Campus Chest, an offshoot of the United Way’s Community Chest.

This year, students pledged to miss an evening dining hall meal per semester and donate the savings to area charities.

Sarah Irland, OCO’s deputy executive director, was happy to accept the donation.

“We are very appreciative of this generous donation and are honored that SUNY Oswego students and SUNY’s Auxiliary Services recognize the importance of the many services that we provide for Oswego County residents and chose us as one of the recipients,” she said.

The funds were donated at a time that coincides with OCO’s annual fund-raising events, the Bowl-A-Fun and Golden Opportunities raffle.

SUNY-Oswego’s donation will be included in the proceeds from the ninth annual Bowl-A-Fun and will be used to benefit the more than 24,000 county residents who use the agency’s 50-plus programs and services each year.

The Bowl-A-Fun event takes place April 10 at Lakeview Lanes in Fulton.

The Golden Opportunities raffle prize drawings also take place April 10 at 5 p.m. at the OCO main office, 239 Oneida St., Fulton.

More information about these fundraisers is available by calling OCO at 598-4717.

OCO is a private, non-profit agency that has been supporting communities throughout Oswego County since 1966 and touches the lives of more than 20,000 people annually.
