CORTLAND, NY – The State University of New York Athletic Conference has named Oswego State field hockey goalie Sarita Charap its Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending October 5, 2014.
This is the second time the freshman has earned the recognition in just six weeks.
In the Lakers’ only game during the week, Charap held host Keystone College scoreless for all 70 minutes, helping Oswego secure a 2-0 victory.
The shutout is the first of the Ocean City, N.J. native’s career, coming just eight games into her time as a Laker.
Charap made nine saves in the win over the Giants.
On the year, Charap is ranked nationally in both saves per game and save percentage.
Her .821 save percentage is good for 17th in the country while the freshman’s 8.63 saves per game is ranked 29th.
In the conference, Charap is second in each category, trailing only Brockport’s Lindsay Farrell.
Charap and the Lakers will face St. John Fisher College next, as they host the Cardinals at 4 p.m. today (Oct. 7).
