SuperStar of the Week

By – JJ Andrews

It’s been a long time since I picked this guy as the SuperStar of the Week. And by a long time, I mean never.

It’s been a long time since this guy has finished in the top five at Oswego Speedway. It’s happened before, but I don’t remember when. Not this year.

It’s been a long time since a “Dogg Chassis” has cracked the top five. Originally built by Dave Marsden, there aren’t too many Doggs in existence, mixing it up with the Hedgers and the FFB’s.

It’s been a long time since somebody over 40 (or in this case WAY over 40) has been picked as the SuperStar of the Week. Youngsters have been dominating a lot of the top finishes this year. (Except for old-timer Mike Bond.)

And it’s been a long time since somebody with many nicknames has been the SuperStar of the Week. “Bird Man,” “Smoochy Lips,”  “Nard Gearbin,” “Dorkfish,” “Beast McNasty,” “Grandma Num-nums” and “President Gumcheeks” are all names that I’ve heard this week’s SuperStar of the Week called.

Although Guard Nearbin’s crew chief Chuck Goodway informed me that he was “driving his ass off,” I checked after the race, and it was still on. Guard has four top tens so far this year, and I think he’s having a great time this season, after semi-retiring a couple of years ago. Last week’s finish of fourth place looked good on Guard. Keep up the good work, Guardy!

And congratulations on your newest nickname – “SuperStar of the Week!”
