NEW HAVEN — Susan K. Allen, 66, a lifelong resident of New Haven, died at home on Monday Sept. 14, 2015, after a brief illness.
She was born in Oswego, the daughter of the late Ken and Mary (Hogan) Searles.
She was a 1967 graduate of the Mexico Academy and Central School District and attended Dutchess Community College for one year.
She enrolled in the dental hygiene program at Onondaga Community College and received an Associate Degree in 1970.
She also attended Utica College and SUNY Brockport.
She was a dental hygienist for the Fulton School City District from 1970-1976.
She was also a dental hygienist for Dr. Langlois, Dr. Body and Dr. Madden.
She was a teacher’s assistant for the Mexico Academy and Central School District.
She loved to spend time with her family, reading, pogo, wood burning and bird watching.
She was a Girl Scout and served as an adult leader for the New Haven Senior Troop #84.
She was predeceased by her parents, Ken and Mary Hogan Searles; her brother, Thomas Searles, and her sister, Nancy Searles.
Her daughter, Heidi M. Allen, was abducted on April 3, 1994.
Susan is survived by her husband of 44 years, Kenneth W. Allen; her daughter, Lisa (Edward) Buske; her granddaughter, Mary Buske; her brother, James (Fran) Searles; her sister, Martha (Russell) Sturtz; and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. (family will stay all the way through if necessary) from the Harter Funeral Home, 9 Washington Ave., Mexico.
