Sweet Treats and Holiday Cheer

Life for some local residents just got a little bit sweeter and merrier this holiday season thanks in part to the Exceptional Education students at Oswego County BOCES.

Helping the students with their culinary confections is Culinary Arts Instructor Chef Sue Jerrett. Chef Jerrett and the Career and Technical Education students in her Culinary Arts program mentored the young students in the art of cookie-making and decorating. The finished creations were donated to local nursing homes and residential facilities during a caroling field trip prior to the holidays.

The ‘sweet’ part was a fun project that was coordinated with the Culinary Arts Career and Technical Education Program at OCB.

The Exceptional Ed students worked as sous chefs in the Culinary Arts’ kitchen, making and decorating Christmas cookies.

The ‘merry’ part was a Christmas caroling field trip to the Ladies Home of Oswego, St. Luke Health Services and The Manor at Seneca Hill.

Students sang their favorite seasonal songs for the residents at each facility and gave each facility a plate of the homemade culinary confections to enjoy for the holidays.
