Assemblyman Will Barclay (R,C,I—Pulaski) announced today that he has secured a legislative grant for $15,000 for the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra to perform at Fort Ontario on July 6 at 8 p.m. SSO will perform a Fourth of July concert free to the public. The program will feature traditional and patriotic tunes. The concert is on the same day this year as the fireworks and Oswego City’s annual Fourth of July parade.

The Syracuse Symphony Orchestra is a fully-professional resident orchestra serving the Central and Northern New York State region. Today an ensemble of national acclaim, the Symphony has 79 musicians and a conducting staff of international caliber, and performs 193 full-orchestra and chamber ensemble concerts throughout Central and Northern New York, reaching more than 225,000 audience members during its 39-week season.

“I’m thrilled the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra will be able to perform on this already-celebrated day in Oswego. Fort Ontario provides a picturesque backdrop to the traditional and patriotic tunes residents and families can enjoy together outdoors,” said Barclay.

This is the fourth year that Barclay has secured money for the symphony to perform at the Fort through the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation. Spectators should bring their own chairs or blankets to sit and enjoy the music.

Additional funding was secured by the Oswego-Fulton Chamber of Commerce and Fort Ontario. Executive Director of Oswego-Fulton Chamber of Commerce Jennifer Hill said she is pleased the events have all lined up so everyone in the region can come and enjoy the symphony on the same day Oswego has its parade and fireworks.

“This free concert by the Syracuse Symphony will be a real treat for the whole family,” said Hill. “We encourage families to pack a picnic basket, bring a blanket and enjoy an evening of great music. Of course making this type of event available to our community is only one example of the importance Assemblyman Barclay places on the quality of life in Oswego County. We are very fortunate to have such a proactive, dynamic legislator represent our region. I want to thank Assemblyman Barclay for everything he does every day for our members and the entire community.”
