For roughly 35 years, The Parade of Trees has brought community residents, businesses, and organizations together to celebrate the holidays with a decorating contest among several colorful, creative displays of Christmas trees.

Fulton Honors Veterans, Recognizes 2017 Veteran of the Year

The Fulton Veterans Council, headed by President Garry Visconti, led a well attended Veterans Day ceremony in the city of Fulton. Dozens of community residents, local elected officials, law enforcement, and veterans themselves braved the chilly winds off the Oswego River as they stood around the many flags that fly with pride at Veterans Park. The crowd then relocated to a local luncheon to recognize 2017 Veteran of the Year, Larry Macner.

Fulton Youth Basketball Announces Registration Dates

It’s that time of the year again, the Fulton Youth Basketball Program has announced the dates to register youth for the 2016-2017 basketball season. Registration will be held on four separate occasions, starting Monday, October 3 from 6:30-8:30 p.m., and continuing Thursday, October 6 from 7-8:30 p.m., Saturday, October 8 from 9:30-11:30 a.m., and Thursday, October 11 from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Fulton Celebrates Memorial Day, Honors the Fallen

Memorial Day weekend kicked off in Fulton with a successful 35th annual Memorial Day Salute. Hundreds of community members and even some from neighboring communities lined the street to watch the Memorial Day Parade as dozens of entries supporting this year’s theme of “Support Our Veterans” enthusiastically marched across the city. The commemoration continued on Memorial Day (Monday, May 30) morning when a group of community members and veterans followed through a police escort to accompany the Honor Guard as they held ceremonies at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Mt. Adnah Cemetery and the Fulton War Memorial Veterans’ Area. The escort ended at Veteran’s Park across from Fulton City Hall where Fulton City Police blocked off the road to allow spectators to line the street to observe the ceremony held in remembrance of the many military members that took the ultimate sacrifice for our great nation.

Fulton Little League Throws Opening Pitch

Fulton Little League recently held an opening day ceremony to officially welcome the youth’s baseball and softball season. On a warm, sunny Saturday (April 30) Fulton Little League participants all gathered on the first and third base lines of John Florek Field at Kiwanis Ball Park, anxiously awaiting the official opening of the 2016 season. With 300 participants this year, players ranged from ages 3-12 for different leagues including T-ball, coach pitch, and minors and majors baseball and softball marched on the field in their colorful new uniforms. After each team was announced and players waved their hats in recognition, Little League Vice President Dave Webber; Little League President, John Florek and Mayor of Fulton, Ronald Woodward Sr. delivered the season’s opening remarks.

Two Oswego County Schools Place in Finals at WGI Regional Competition

Two high schools from Oswego County traveled to Rochester on Saturday (Feb 20) to compete in the Winter Guard International Regional Competition at Gates Chili High School. At the WGI Regionals, Central Square High School (Varsity) and Oswego High School (Varsity) competed in the Scholastic A class, a group of 15 total schools from all over New York and one school from New Jersey. Both teams qualified for the finals after a prelim score of 70.080 placed Oswego in fifth place and a score of 72.110 placed Central Square in third place, missing second place by only two-tenths of a point.

Fulton City Council Adopts 2016 Budget with 4.3% Tax Increase

The Fulton city common council approved the final 2016 budget after a public hearing held Tuesday. Starting the budget process with a 10% tax increase in the first draft; the mayor, councilmen and city clerk/chamberlain worked through the weeks to go over the budget meticulously and make any cuts to lower the tax increase as much as possible. In its final and approved stage, the $15.9 million budget brings forth an overall increase of $261,091 from the 2015 budget and a 4.3% tax increase.

Fulton Officials Begin The 2016 Budget Process

Fulton city clerk/chamberlain Daniel O’Brien headed the first 2016 general budget meeting for the city of Fulton alongside Mayor Ron Woodward Sr. and the rest of the city council Monday. The first look into the general numbers shows a proposed budget of 16.3 million dollars, an increase from this year’s 15.7 million dollar budget.
