Hundreds of readers, young and old, descended on the Oswego YMCA Armory over the weekend to celebrate “One World – Many Stories.” The Literacy Coalition of Oswego County hosted the free event. The goal of the Literacy Coalition of Oswego County is to empower the community to build literacy in a collaborative, inclusive and comprehensive manner.
The event, held in the Oswego YMCA Armory, provided an opportunity to learn about the many human services programs available to youth in Oswego County. It showed those present how their agencies could work together. The presentations touched on job training, mentoring, juvenile justice services, recreation and much more.
At its meeting Monday night, the Common Council approved deeding the Armory to the YMCA. The YMCA is proposing some major alteration to the Armory, for which it must obtain funding. It is necessary for the YMCA to have ownership of the Armory in order to obtain the needed funding for the proposed project. […]

Organizers said Warm Up Oswego 2012 was the biggest and best ever. Hundreds of people took part in activities inside and outside the Oswego YMCA Armory and all over the city as well. The event helped lift the Port City out of the winter doldrums.
