In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, women with limited or no health insurance will have the opportunity to receive free mammograms and breast exams during October courtesy of Oswego County Opportunities’ Cancer Services Program Partnership.
In an effort to raise awareness of the free cancer screening services available through Oswego County Opportunities’ Cancer Services Program, representatives from the program have been on site at Dynamic Sound & Security in Oswego throughout the month of September to distribute colorectal cancer screening kits and information.
Oswego County Opportunities’ Cancer Services Program and Dynamic Sound & Security in Oswego want to help uninsured males 50 years of age and older stay clean of colorectal cancer.
Our camera visited the annual American Cancer Society “Relay for Life” Friday at the Oswego High School track.
Teams from throughout the county spent the night walking the track in support of those who have fought cancer.
“Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States,†said Dr. Dennis Norfleet, Oswego County Public Health Director. “Long-term, unprotected exposure to the sun’s rays, even on cloudy days, causes up to 90 percent of all skin cancer.â€
Student athletes took on coaches in a series of sports competitions Thursday night in Fulton in which the only loser was cancer.
The event raised money for the Golisano Children’s Hospital at University Hospital in Syracuse, but its real purpose was to recognize the damage cancer has done to young people and to wrap the community’s arms around one of its best-known families.
The updated study would look at cancer rates around the Nine Mile Point nuclear plants, as well as cancer rates at every other nuclear facility in the country.
Oswego Middle School’s faculty, staff and students came together for two big fundraisers in one night. A dodgeball tournament was held in the gym. During halftime, several members of the faculty had their heads shaved. Their efforts raised more than $1,392.
