McHugh Asks US Attorney General to Conduct Criminal Investigation of Financial Industry

Congressman John M. McHugh (NY-Pierrepont Manor) called on United States Attorney General Michael Mukasey to conduct an investigation of any financial institution, corporation, or individual that is suspected of criminal action relating to our current financial crisis.  The Congressman signed a bipartisan letter with 30 other Members of Congress calling for the Attorney General to conduct a criminal investigation and involve the financial crimes units of other federal agencies to assist in his investigation.

McHugh Calls for Investigation of Lavish AIG Retreat

Congressman John M. McHugh (NY-Pierrepont Manor) signed a letter today to Secretary of the Treasury Hank Paulson and Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke asking that they investigate how taxpayer dollars were used by AIG.  After the federal government announced it was providing a loan of $85 billion to AIG to prevent its collapse, it was reported that AIG executives hosted a $440,000 retreat at an exclusive resort in California.

Congressman McHugh is deeply concerned that this potential free trade agreement with the nations of Brunei, Chile, New Zealand, and Singapore would be detrimental to the U.S. dairy industry, particularly as New Zealand is the world’s largest dairy exporter.  In the 23rd Congressional District, there are approximately 2,000 dairy farms.
