The Oswego Minor Hockey Association lost money last season. With rising costs for ice time at the city rinks, officials say it is becoming more and more difficult to keep the organization solvent. Street Name Change Honors Native Americans Influence On Oswego

At its meeting Monday night, the Common Council approved a request by city resident Mike Goldych that the city change the name of Canal View Drive to Onondaga Street. According to Goldych, by renaming the street it will reflect how the Onondagas  connected the other nations – Cayugas, Senecas, Oneidas and Mohawks.

Child Protection Advisory Council Holds Community Meetings

Several members of the Child Protection Advisory Council accept a proclamation designating April as Child Abuse Prevention Month in Oswego County. The Oswego County Child Protection Advisory Council will host two more community forums to provide opportunities for citizens to share their views and develop ideas for preventing child abuse in the county.  The council has adopted the motto, “Our Children, Our County, Our Future – Our Responsibility.”

Oswego May Change Street’s Name

During the public session at Monday’s council meeting, it was proposed to change the name of a certain street on the east side to Onondaga. It would connect Mohawk, Oneida, Cayuga and Seneca streets, in honor of the members of the Iroquois Nation, according to the speaker. It is a simple idea that makes sense, the council president said. Aldermen took no action on the proposal Monday.
