At its Sept. 13 meeting, the council approved authorizing the mayor to enter into a pre-possession agreement with Fowler Gardella Construction and Thomas Miller for property located at 1-7 W. Seneca St.
The council will schedule a public hearing on the proposed changes at its Sept. 27 meeting. Aldermen will consider the proposed amendments two weeks after that.
All of the residents at 38-40 W. Third St. must be out of the building by Sept. 30, the Common Council said Monday night. Officials were looking at residents of just one apartment; however, they decided Monday night that everyone must move out of the premises to safely perform a thorough extermination of the bugs.
At their Sept. 7 committee meeting, councilors will likely recommend which firm they want for the upgrade of the Westside Wastewater Treatment Plant. Members of the Common Council and other city officials heard presentations Monday night from the two firms in the running for the project.
“There were concerned residents and business owners who wanted to discuss the parking policy. We had four meetings and recommendations were made to modify the policy,†explained Councilor Cathy Santos, chair of the parking committee. The four areas of concern were snow removal, access for the public to downtown businesses, guest parking and parking fees, she told the councilors.
The Water Department, DPW and City Engineer were authorized to move forward with cleaning and lining of the necessary Hillside Avenue water mains with an approved coating system. The cost of the project is not to exceed $35,000. Several residents there have water, they say, unfit to use.
Oswego homeowners and businesses will soon pay a lot more for the use of the city’s sewer system. The Common Council voted Monday night to increase sewer fees by 50% to pay for a court-ordered separation of the city’s west side system.
The council agrees to seek developers for the former Coleman’s property. In the meantime, they will allow Harborfest to use part of the property to prepare for and celebrate the festival.
The Minetto Elementary School Student Council recently wrapped up a very successful year.
At Monday night’s meeting of the Administrative Services Committee, Mike Smith, DPW commissioner, requested discussion regarding the purchase of several pieces of equipment. He gave councilors a list of five vehicles and sander box that he’d like to purchase. “This isn’t a wish list. These are things that I really need,†he said.
