Oswego County’s Share of Stimulus Funds So Far: $80 Million

An analysis by Oswego County Today that compared the amount of stimulus funds to the population of the counties shows that Oswego County is getting $659.87 in stimulus funds for each of the county’s 121,454 residents (using 2007 Census estimates).

That’s below the $804.68 average for each person in the state, but a little above the median amount of $641.53.

Oswego, Albion to host Great Lakes Small Harbor Workshops

New York Sea Grant, the Orleans County Tourism Office, the Oswego County Department of Community Development, Tourism & Planning and the Great Lakes Small Harbor Coalition are holding workshops in Albion from 1pm to 4pm on October 27 at Tillman’s Village Inn Restaurant and in Oswego, NY, from 1pm to 4pm on October 28 at the Oswego Public Library to help shoreline community leaders and harbor managers.

I’m starting a new occasional feature — highlighting data that shines a light on our county and our communities.  Our governments produce floods of data.  We hope to spoon out a few ounces as it flows by and show you something you might not have known.

New Utility Assessments Exemplify Poor Public Policy

Beginning this summer, utility bills began to feature a new fee called the “Utility Tax Service Conservation Assessment.” This is now listed on all utility bills. Though a modest fee for most households, it is, nonetheless, another state fee and exists thanks to the budget that passed in the spring. I am urging for the repeal of this assessment to prevent more money from going to our already bloated state budget.
