A child playing with a lighter is believed to have caused a fire on Varick Street. No injuries were reported. Fire officials credit smoke detectors with helping the victims get out of the house safely.

Smoke Filled Bus Training Provides Genuine Learning Experience for Oswego Drivers

</p>Smoke starts to overtake the Oswego City School District bus drivers as they experience the "smoke bus" during safety training.  Among the drivers experiencing the test were Kelly Stauring, Phyllis Myer, Stacy Sandler, Cindy Loughrey, Linda Bristol and Len VanBuren.

Smoke began to roll from the back of the bus over the heads of passengers. It didn’t take very long for the visibility to be reduced to near zero as people began to find their way toward the emergency exits.

Firefighters Quell Fire At Nursing Home

Fire damaged a janitorial storage room at the Pontiac Nursing Home. The residents weren’t in danger as the location of the fire was on the ground level, not close to any resident rooms, fire officials report.

Man Injured In Sunday Evening Fire

An occupant of a Duer Street apartment suffered minor burns as he escaped from the burning building. Fire investigators have ruled the fire “accidental.” It was caused by cooking oil left unattended on top of a stove, they said.
