Anglers can explore ideal conditions for salmon and trout along designated fly-fishing areas of the Salmon River near Altmar. Recognizing the value of this precious resource, the authorities have set aside a couple short sections for fly-fishing, catch and release only, giving trophy salmonids the chance to survive and thrive after their encounter with man; and drawing anglers from all over the world to indulge in the possibilities.

They’re sick of snow banks lining sidewalks and streets, dirty slush soiling their shoes, pant legs and cars in streaks of mud and salt. But there’s a lot of color around if you know where to look for it, and the best place to catch a rainbow right now is Oswego County’s Lake Ontario tributaries.
