Eight Rental Properties Receive Curbside Facelift Thanks to Fulton Block Builder Challenge

This is the first summer for the Fulton Block Builders (FBB) and it has been a very successful one. Linda Eagan, the FBB director, has been extremely pleased with the exterior improvements being made by homeowners, however there is one group she is particularly happy to be working with. FBB has had the opportunity to engage five different landlords who are revitalizing eight different properties throughout the city. One of the guiding principles for Eagan has come from Charles Buki, a founder of the Healthy Neighborhood Initiative; which FBB is based on. “When we say ‘healthy neighborhoods’ we do not mince words. We believe that lack of income should not disqualify people from growing up and living in nurturing communities. So when we say ‘healthy neighborhoods’ we mean a place where it makes sense for people to invest their time and energy and money.” – Charles Buki.

McDonald’s Celebrating Local Public Safety Officials

The McDonald’s on South 4th Street in Fulton is celebrating two events with members of the Fulton Fire Department and Fulton Police Department. On Saturday, October 14th from 11a.m.-1p.m., their friends with the Fulton Fire Department & Fulton Police Department will be set up and families will have a chance to get an up close and personal look at a fire engine in the McDonald’s parking lot. On Tuesday, October 17th from 9a.m. to 11a.m., the Fulton McDonald’s will be hosting a “Meet the Chiefs” breakfast where neighbors can meet David Eiffe, the new Fulton Fire Chief and Assistant Chief Shane Laws and learn about their plans for the future.

Fulton Candidates React to Primary, Absentees Change Race Results

Unofficial results for local primary elections left some races tight for elected officials relative to Fulton on either the city’s Common Council or the Oswego County Legislature. In one instance, the results have since changed. The 25th Legislative District representing a portion of Fulton on the Oswego County Legislature showed an initial unofficial count for a Conservative race of six votes for candidate Marc Holliday and four votes for incumbent Frank Castiglia Jr. Oswego County Board of Elections officials have confirmed that absentee ballots tallied last week have the two at a deadlock, both receiving seven votes.

City of Fulton, Police Department Reach Contract Agreement

The city of Fulton and the Fulton Police Benevolent Association representing the Fulton Police Department have reached a mutual agreement for a five-year contract. Negotiations have been ongoing between the two parties since the previous contract expired on December 31, 2014. The current contract will be effective retroactive to the day following the previous contract’s expiration, January 1, 2015. Read the full article for details on the contract agreement.

Cause of Fulton Structure Fire Under Investigation

Firefighters were on scene for nearly 12 hours Tuesday (September 19) as they battled a commercial structure fire in Fulton. Fulton Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 807 S. First St. within three minutes of the call received at 6:50 a.m. The scene was entirely cleared at approximately 6:30 p.m., according to FFD Assistant Chief Shane Laws.

Commercial Fire Shuts Down State Route 481 in Fulton

Crews are on scene battling a commercial fire at the Prime Auto used car dealership in Fulton at 807 South First Street. Located at the southern entrance to the city, State Route 481 has been shut down to all traffic in the area. Local police are on scene detouring vehicles off of State Route 481 at the southern entrance to the city and around the fire from the north end on Fay Street. Travelers are advised to avoid the area.

State Route 481 Lane Reductions During Demolition in Fulton

A traffic pattern change is anticipated for a portion of State Route 481 in Fulton on Tuesday, September 19. Traffic will be lessened to one lane in both directions in the area near the former Nestle site to allow for completion of demolition. City officials are warning travelers of this route to be aware of the lane reduction and prepare for any traffic delays that may result.
