City Declares Former Nestle Site An ‘Imminent Danger’

The Fulton Common Council declared the former Nestles site located at 555 S. Fourth St. “an imminent danger” at a regular meeting held Wednesday. After a long demolition process plagued with several interruptions, few buildings remain standing on the 24-acre site with piles of debris left scattered about. Mayor Ronald Woodward Sr. said structurally compromised buildings and remaining asbestos are main contributors to the decision to declare the site a danger. With the approval of this resolution, the current contractor on site, Rowlee Construction, will be authorized to remain on site and continue working under the current contract.

Fulton Save-A-Lot Hosts Grand Re-Opening Under New Ownership

The Save-A-Lot store located at 364 West First Street in Fulton is hosting a grand re-opening event. Re-opening as a locally owned grocery store by the previous owner of Hannibal’s former long running local grocery store the Village Market IGA, Jim Mirabito along with his wife, Cindy and daughter, Whitney remain dedicated to providing quality products with excellent customer service at affordable prices. Saturday, July 8, the Fulton Save-A-Lot will officially be honored under the Mirabito’s ownership with a ribbon cutting ceremony scheduled to commence at 11 a.m.

Fulton Fire Department Swears In New Chief, Assistant Chief, Captain

The three newest leaders of the Fulton Fire Department were officially sworn in to their new positions Thursday evening (June 29.) The ceremony came following the retirement of former fire chief Paul Foster effective the same day whose 32 years of service is included in a total of 155 years of experience retiring from the FFD within the week. Family, friends, community members, and fellow firefighters gathered together as the FFD swore in a new chief, assistant chief, and captain.

Fulton, Aldi Set Tentative Date to Close on Site Purchase

Fulton Mayor Ronald Woodward Sr. recently revealed the tentative date to close on the sale contract between the city of Fulton and international supermarket chain, Aldi. Aldi has adamantly expressed interest in purchasing the 2.2 acre corner lot of the former Nestle site bordering South Fourth and Fay streets. Despite a long running demolition process of the 24 acre site plagued with several interruptions, an anticipated close on the purchase is tentatively scheduled for July 5.

Superintendent Pulvino to 2017 Graduates: ‘I Want You To Go For It’

The day has come and gone, as Fulton’s 2017 G. Ray Bodley seniors prepare to tackle the world as high school graduates. Brian Pulvino, completing his first year leading the district in her role as Superintendent reflected on his personal experiences when sending his first group of FCSD graduates on their way to the next steps of their lives. “Getting out of your comfort zone is the key to experiencing new things and growing as a person, taking risks, extending yourself to your limits and striving for your goals,” he told the seniors.

City Officials in Process of Purchasing Dredge For Lake Neatahwanta Clean-Up

The intended opening of Fulton’s former beach area on Lake Neatahwanta, Stevenson Beach, will be delayed at least another dredging season. Though city officials were once hopeful the beach could reopen this summer, high toxicity levels do not permit swimmable conditions which Mayor Ronald Woodward Sr. referred to as “disappointing.” Currently, the city is in the process of buying the dredging equipment from the contractor that has been completing the dredging work in recent years, Groh Dredging.

City of Fulton, Fire Department Reach Contract Agreement, Avoid Arbitration

On the brink of heading to arbitration, the city of Fulton and the International Association of Fire Fighters Local 3063 representing the Fulton Fire Department have reached a contract agreement after years of failed negotiations. After the previous contract expired at the end of 2014, city officials and union representatives failed to agree on the conditions of a new three-year contract. Yesterday, (June 15) both parties approved a contract that closely resembles the most recent contract between the city and the CSEA.

Fulton Council Approves $3.5 Million Demolition Bond

The Fulton Common Council unanimously approved a $3.5 million bond resolution for the demolition of various city owned properties. It’s anticipated that the majority of the bond total will be expended on the ongoing demolition at the former Nestle site following new information from the Department of Labor. City officials just learned that they are required to clear all debris from the Nestle site in its entirety before they can continue demolition to remaining structures.

Police Reports Detail Nature of Fulton Hate Crime

Police reports have released some detail into a recent string of arrests following what Fulton Police are deeming to be a hate crime. The victim, a black man, was physically beaten with a board while the alleged perpetrators repeated racial slurs. Police reports indicate the incident happened on May 27 at a West Broadway address in the city of Fulton. The defendants were said to have “aided and acted in concert” with their co-defendants, a total of five men charged with hate crime assault.
