Fulton’s Annual Parent University To Screen Award Winning Film: ‘Resilience’

Fulton City School District will hold the fourth annual Parent University on Saturday, March 24 from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. at G. Ray Bodley High School. New this year, Parent University will include two showings of the award winning film, “Resilience.” As in years past, parents will have the opportunity to attend several informational sessions, attend student performances, and gather information from the community resource fair. Breakfast, lunch, transportation, and child surpervision is provided for free.

Fulton Boys Youth Lacrosse Holds Series of Registration Opportunities

The Fulton Boys Youth Lacrosse league will hold the first sign up opportunity for the 2018 season tonight (March 7.) From 6-8 p.m., players can register for the season at the Fulton Community Ice Arena located at 605 West Broadway. Additional registration opportunities will be held on Saturday, March 10 from 9-11 a.m. and Tuesday, March 20 from 6-8 p.m., all held at the Community Ice Arena.

Public Hearing to Address Ban of Chickens in City Limits, Several Other Proposals

The Fulton Common Council announced a public hearing to be held at the next regular meeting addressing several proposals. The public will have the opportunity to weigh in on six separate proposals. Two proposals are relative to raising animals within city limits as city officials look to amend Chapter 475 “Property Conservation” by adding chickens to the list of animals prohibited from living within city limits. “If we don’t have chickens, we wouldn’t have to worry about them running on the sidewalk,” Mayor Ronald Woodward Sr. said. Several other proposals will be up for discussion.

You Can Help: Fulton’s Ice Rink Competes for $150,000 Prize

The Fulton Recreation Center has entered the Kraft Hockeyville contest for the chance to win $150,000 in rink upgrades and the opportunity to host a pre-season NHL game. The contest relies heavily on community support, utilizing a Community Rally Page for members of the community to earn rally points toward scoring in the judging phase of the contest. Until March 11, community members are able to garner “Rally Points” by writing stories, adding pictures and videos, writing a note, reacting to others posts, or sharing Fulton’s Rally Page on Twitter.

Fulton Area Home Show Returns in April

Booths and exhibits from building suppliers, home repair specialists, and financial institutions will fill the Fulton War Memorial for the tenth time when the Fulton Area Home Show returns on Saturday, April 7, 2018. A true sign of spring, the free home show is an opportunity for local homeowners and potential homebuyers to get a glimpse of the many services available for buying, selling, renovating, and sprucing up a home. The show runs from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. featuring a variety of different vendors from financial institutions offering help on mortgages to contractors and suppliers offering ideas on improvements.

Plath Appointed To Vacant Seat On Fulton BOE

A sudden resignation last month left the Fulton City School District Board of Education grappling with options regarding the vacant seat. After soliciting letters of interest from community members willing to fill the position, five people came forward with interest in the position. After reviewing the interested parties, board vice president Dan Pawlewicz made a motion to appoint Christine Plath to the position at Tuesday’s (Jan 24) regular meeting. The motion was approved with four votes in favor and one abstaining vote from board member Lynn Lyons.

Informational Meeting Shows Potential for Growth Among Fulton Block Builders

Fulton Block Builders administrative director, Linda Eagan addressed a packed house as she explained the mission of the grassroots organization and answered questions from the community at a recent informational meeting. A room full of Fulton citizens intrigued by the program showed a strong potential for the Fulton Block Builders (FBB) to grow in participants in the 2018 Block Challenge. “In 2018, I am hopeful that a lot of Blocks will expand neighborhood conversations, organize with new people, apply for a FBB grant and re-engage in their neighborhood and our community,” Eagan said. The revitalization program, launched in Fulton in 2017 based off the Healthy Neighborhood Initiative, offers approved homeowners the opportunity to recapture a dollar-for-dollar match up to $1,000 on funds they use to make exterior home improvements.

Fulton Seeks State Designation For Oswego River and Lake Neatahwanta

A local resolution has requested the addition of Lake Neatahwanta and the Oswego River to NYS Department of State’s listing of Coastal Waterways and Designated Inland Waterways. The resolution, unanimously passed through the Fulton Common Council, is the first step to receiving the state designation. If approved, Fulton’s waterfronts will join a listing of eleven Coastal Waterways and more than 120 Designated Inland Waterways.
