Human Pink Ribbon Raises Awareness For Breast Cancer

Oswego County Opportunities Cancer Services Program brought together health providers, cancer survivors, local support programs, and members of the community to raise awareness of cancer screening opportunities to help save lives. The pink ribbon event was the highlight of an even bigger awareness campaign throughout the month of October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Hosted by Coordinator of OCO’s Cancer Services Program, Carolyn Handville, dozens of guests wore pink and formed a giant human ribbon to spotlight breast cancer awareness for the eighth annual event.

Two mayoral proclamations this month honored Fulton City School District’s Board of Education and district principals.The week of October 23-27 was officially declared School Board Recognition Week while the entire month of October was named Principal Recognition Month in the city of Fulton. Each proclamation ended with Mayor Ronald Woodward Sr. encouraging community residents to use this time as an opportunity to thank a school board member and a principal throughout the district for their selfless dedication to the students of Fulton.

Emery Grove Apartments Ribbon Cutting Draws Crowd to Celebrate Completed Renovations

A four year project came to completion as a ribbon cutting ceremony for Emery Grove Apartments drew dozens to the newly rehabbed apartment complex on Emery Street in Fulton. A complete overhaul of the former Fulton Housing Authority into 95 quality, affordable homes for seniors and families of Fulton and surrounding areas was spearheaded by Holly Carpenter, Fulton Housing Authority Deputy Executive Director and Bruce Levine, 3D Development President when four years ago a plan was birthed to provide a safer, more modern, overall better place for tenants to live. The new apartments offer 55 family units with 10 four-bedroom apartments, 31 three-bedroom apartments, 13 one-bedroom apartments, and one two-bedroom apartment. The senior complex offers 40 units made up of 36 one-bedroom apartments and four two-bedroom apartments.

Fulton Block Builders Approach Renovations Deadline, Celebrate Achievements in First Year

The Fulton Block Builders 2017 Block Challenge is seeing the final stages of home renovations being completed as the initiative’s deadline approaches at the end of October. Participants in the Block Challenge from neighborhoods throughout the city have until October 31 to complete their exterior home renovations to receive a matching grant from Fulton Block Builders. Pre-applications flooded the FBB volunteer group with 209 homeowners initially applying. 171 homeowners from 25 blocks submitted final applications with a final decision of 22 blocks with 160 properties awarded Block Challenge grants. Of those properties, nine belong to six landlords that own homes in the city, 95 have completed projects, 37 are still underway before the October 31 deadline and some properties had unforeseen circumstances preventing their completion. In total, $70,000 in Block Builder checks have been written and $180,000 worth of improvements have been made city wide.

Aldi Contractor Tells Fulton Public: Opening Slated for Mid December

Stephen Proietta from Aldi’s contractor, National Contracting addressed questions from the public after a regular meeting of the Fulton Common Council on Tuesday, October 17. Aldi, the international supermarket chain, is constructing a new store location on the corner of Fay and South Fourth Streets in Fulton on a parcel of the former Nestle factory site. The City of Fulton acquired the 24-acre lot at 555 South Fourth Street by tax foreclosure in November of 2015 after the buildings sat mostly empty since Nestle closed in 2003. Today, nearly two years after acquisition, the site is anticipating complete demolition of the former factory by the end of the year with an Aldi store on a 2.2-acre lot slated to open in mid-December. The demolition of the dilapidated factory was plagued with several interruptions and contract amendments between the city and Aldi pushed back construction of the store, but as framework of the store goes up on site, residents are realizing the final steps of the store’s journey to Fulton are happening. County Legislator Frank Castiglia Jr. arranged for both Stephen Proietta of National Contracting and Ted Rowlee of Rowlee Construction to speak to the public in regards to the ongoing work at the site including the construction of the Aldi store and the demolition of the former factory buildings after several constituents in his district posed questions.

Fulton Fire, Police Gather at McDonald’s Public Safety Appreciation Day

The Fulton McDonald’s brought together local law enforcement for a public safety appreciation day on Saturday, October 14. Members of the Fulton Fire Department and Fulton Police Department joined B104.7 radio hosts, Ronald McDonald, and Hamburglar to interact with local families. Kids were able to answer fire safety questions with FFD firefighters to receive a bag full of information and items to encourage fire safety practices at home and take a turn sitting in the driver seat of a fire engine. Fulton police officers answered questions, handed out information and treats for kids, and allowed an inside look at patrol cars.
