Fulton Gears Up for 2018 Red Raiders Basketball Challenge

This weekend, Fulton will transform into a basketball hub for several youth travel teams to partake in the 2018 Fulton Red Raider Basketball Challenge. The tournament will include teams from third grade through eighth grade, hosting games at four schools throughout the Fulton City School District and at the Fulton War Memorial. Games will begin on Friday, March 16 and will continue through Sunday, March 18.

Fulton Youth Basketball Winter Clinic Packs the Gym

The Fulton Youth Basketball shooting and offensive skills clinic yielded roughly 75 participants from pre-kindergarten through sixth grade. The turnout was an increase from the number of participants that attended last year; a statistic that keeps growing annually, just as the participation numbers for the Fulton Youth Basketball league, according to program director Sean Broderick. Held at the city-owned Fulton War Memorial, kids flooded the gym Monday and Tuesday (Feb. 19 and 20) to learn skills centered on the fundamentals of shooting, dribbling, and passing. Even more so, Broderick said, the kids had plenty of fun.

Varsity Athletes Give Back to Fulton’s Youth Basketball Players

More than 140 young basketball players left the War Memorial with a gift after Saturday’s game day for Fulton Youth Basketball. Presents were collected by varsity and junior varsity athletes from the girls basketball and cheerleading teams as well as the varsity boys soccer team, all of which individual athletes purchased their own presents to donate. As an undertaking led by Fulton’s athletic director Christopher Ells, each team in the district organizes and prioritizes a project to emphasize giving back to the community. For the girls basketball program’s project, 143 gifts were purchased and donated to be distributed randomly to Fulton Youth Basketball players from each team in grades pre-kindergarten through sixth grade.

Hometown Basketball Icons Share Knowledge at Fulton Youth Clinic

The third year of Fulton Youth Basketball’s spring clinic brought an impressive roster of Fulton native basketball success stories to share their knowledge of the sport with today’s dedicated young players. This year, the clinic offered two hometown basketball experts to speak to the group and host a shooting clinic. Robin VanSchneider, the all-time leading scorer for women’s varsity basketball in Fulton and Kevin Broderick, current Nazareth College men’s basketball coach and former record setting coach at SUNY Oswego spread their expertise among the eager players.
