Scout Works To Spruce Up Great Bear

Kyle Kemp looks over the the new bridge he worked on building for the final part of his Eagle Scout project.

The project entailed a walkthrough with members of Friends of Great Bear and a forester from Oswego County Soil and Water Conservation District, identifying select areas in need of repair. Once the areas were identified, it was discussed and determined how each section would be repaired. Quantity, type of materials and tools needed were then determined.

King of Kings Lutheran Church Senior High Youth Group and advisors working at Great Bear

King of Kings Lutheran Church Senior High Youth Group and advisors, along with several members Friends of Great Bear, worked on clearing and developing a section of new trail at Great Bear Recreational Area. When complete, the new trail, connecting with several existing trails, will provide an approximate five-mile wooded loop through the Great Bear property.

Hiking The Trails At Great Bear

Members of the Onondaga chapter of the Adirondack Mountain Club enjoyed a Sunday afternoon, hiking the trails at Great Bear. Great Bear Recreational Area is a non-motorized, share the trails wooded area adjoining the Oswego River/canal and old tow path. There are more than seven miles of marked trails.
