December 2010 Was Colder, Wetter Than Normal

The temperature last month was 2.6 degrees below normal and the precipitation was 1.12 inches higher than average. Snowfall, for the first time all winter, was higher than normal – but, we’re still nearly 6 inches below average for the winter.

Fall 2010 Was Warmer Than Average

The calendar still said “fall.” But recently it did seem more like winter. A worker clears snow off the sidewalk going over the East Albany Street bridge. Compared to some other places around the area, Oswego really hasn't received that much snow.

It was also more than 2.50 inches wetter than normal. Snowfall has lagged behind for the season as well. Fall was a windy season – with the greatest wind speeds clocked at more than 65 mph.

November Turned Out Slightly Warmer, A Lot Drier Than Normal

November 2010 goes into the record books a bit warmer and quite a bit drier than average. The average temperature was 41.4 degrees. That is just 0.8-degree higher than average. Precipitation for the month wound up at 2.62 inches. That is 1.85 inches below normal.

Muggy July Was Warmer Than Average

June 2010 Was Warmer, Much Wetter Than Average

Storm clouds such as these hung over Central New York several days  during June. Total rainfall last month was more than the three previous  months' totals combined.

The average temperature last month was 1.4 degrees above average despite the dreary rainy days throughout most of June. The total precipitation, however, was 4.32 inches above average – and more than the precipitation for March, April and May combined.

Spring 2010 Was ‘Warmest On Record’

Summer begins at 7:28 a.m. today, taking over from a spring that was the warmest on record. The average temperature for spring 2010 was 50.8 degrees. That is 5.9 degrees warmer than usual, according to Bill Gregway, local observer for the National Weather Service.

May 2010 Was One Of The Warmest

A boat glides past the Oswego Lighthouse on May 31, the hottest  day of the month.

The average temperature last month, 60.6 degrees, was more than4 degrees higher than average and appears to also be the third warmest May on record in the Port City.
