December Languishing In ‘Snow Drought’

<p>The heavy snowfall makes reading the time on the City Hall clock tower difficult. But the flag gives no doubt to the strong northerly winds.</p>Despite Wednesday’s snow burst, the area’s snowfall is still below where it should be. While December’s snowfall is about where it should be, the season started nearly 10 inches below average – which could mean a winter with less than 100 inches of snow.

November 2009 Was Very Warm And Dry

Last month seemed more like spring than late fall. It was 5.4 degrees warmer than average. It was 2.78 inches below average for precipitation. And, snowfall was 9.1 inches below normal.

Snowless Days Of November May Mean A Low Snow Winter

October Was A Bit Wetter, Cooler Than Average

Oswego Area Had Above Average Growing Season

The growing season officially came to an end on Oct. 16 as the temperature hit 31 degrees. The season was 184 days this year. The average is 182. The area saw its first light frost of the season on Monday.

July 2009 Was Cooler But Not As Wet As Usual

<p>It was a soggy time during several parts of Harborfest 2009. However, the precipitation for the month was actually slightly below average.</p>

July goes into the record book cooler, but not as wet as you may think. The average temperature last month was 67.2 degrees, which is 3.6 degrees cooler than normal. Total precipitation for the month was 2.82 inches. That is 0.21-inch below average.

Lots Of Wind, But No Snow – Yet

<p>Waves crash over the breakwall near Oswego's lighthouse Tuesday afternoon.</p>

Tuesday’s windstorm dumped more than a half an inch of rain on the area.  The month’s snowfall total is stuck at a trace, however. Wind speeds reached into the mid-40s. Warmer weather is expected for the next couple of days.
