Water Levels To Decline Throughout The Lake Ontario-St. Lawrence River System With Dry Forecast

Lake Ontario water levels are approaching the seasonal peak. Outflow into the St. Lawrence River is gradually increasing, as Ottawa River flows gradually decrease.  Water levels on Lake Ontario increased the first few days of May due to decreased flows related to rising downstream water levels and a slow-moving wet weather system.

Port Of Oswego Achieves Shipping Record In 2022, Reestablishes Itself As Upstate Commerce Force

With a record year in 2022, the Port of Oswego Authority ( POA), staked its’ claim as a dominant force in maritime commerce for Central New York, the Great Lakes, and the world. Shipping alone was up over 300% compared to 2021 , said William, Scriber, POA executive director.  Recently, the Port received the U.S. Dept. of Transportation designation as a USDOT Marine Highway, one of only 32 in the United States.

Salmon River Catch & Release Area Reels In Fly Fishermen

The annual Salmon Run draws large crowds of anglers to the Salmon River Corridor, which runs between Lake Ontario and the New York State Hatchery in Altmar, New York, but the fishing scene upstream from the County Route 52 bridge has a different flavor, with fishermen and women of all ages using hand tied files to briefly capture a variety of salmonids.
