Oswego County Legislature Recognizes Departing Officials

The Oswego County Legislature bid farewell to several outgoing officials at the close of its last meeting of the year. After expressing appreciation for their dedicated service to the people of the county, Oswego County Legislature Chairman Barry Leemann presented each legislator a plaque with his nameplate. Pictured from left are Arthur Gearsbeck, District 6, nine years; Paul Santore, District 16, eight years; Phillip Vasho, District 22, six years; Lee Walker, Jr., District 15, two terms, five years; and Jack Beckwith, District 21, two terms, 12 years. Absent from the photo were legislators James Bryant, District 5, and Clayton Brewer, District 24. County Deeds Land To Oswego City

The 60′ X 1,028′ property, adjacent to Wal-Mart, runs northwesterly from 104 to the city so that a new city street can be dedicated, which will foster economic development and improve traffic patterns and safety in the area, according to the resolution. The legislature will reconvene at 7 p.m. Dec. 15 and hold a public hearing on the budget as well.

Legislature Cuts Budget Deficit, But Leaves Schools Alone…This Year

The Senate approved a $2.7 billion deficit reduction plan that the Assembly had approved in an overnight session that stretched into Wednesday morning.

Assembly Approved $2.8 Billion In Cuts; Not Enough, Says Governor

Most of the cuts have already been made. Gov. David Paterson got fed up with waiting for the Legislature to make cuts, so he ordered state agencies to give back nearly half a billion dollars and took money from other accounts. The Legislature opposed Paterson’s call to cut school aid in the middle of the year.
