Maxwells’ Trial Focuses On Cat Waste And A Locked Door

<p>Lynn and Lindsey Maxwell arrive for the start of their trial, with reporters and photographers around them.</p>

The trial of Lynn and Lindsey Maxwell will turn on three things: door locks, cat poop and cat pee.  Those three items dominated the opening night of their trial on child endangerment charges in Palermo Wednesday.

They are the father and step-mother of Erin Maxwell, the 11 year old found dying in her bedroom last August 29.  They are not on trial for her death.  Erin’s stepbrother, Alan Jones, is accused of sexually abusing and then killing her.  The Maxwells are accused of having conditions in their home that were dangerous to Erin.

Jackie Siver and Colleen Scott each approached the Oswego County Legislature Thursday to present petitions asking to have Lanigan removed from her position in response to the death of 11-year-old Erin Maxwell.

Candidates Strike During Debate

As the campaign trail winds down in the race for the 48th District seat on the New York State Senate, the two candidates vying for the seat have taken off their gloves. Thursday, incumbent Democratic Senator Darrel Aubertine and Republican challenger Dave Renzi met for their fifth debate of the issues. For nearly half of the hour-long debate, Aubertine and Renzi exchanged jabs at one another, rather than discussing issues.

Petition Calls For Commissioner’s Job

</p>A petition has started to circulate around Oswego County, calling for the commissioner of the Oswego County Department of Social Services to step down or be removed from her position in response to the department’s handling of the Erin Maxwell case. Oswego County Administrator Philip Church says while residents are entitled to circulate a petition, it is not likely to cost the commissioner her job.

Police: Arrests Bring ‘Justice For Erin’

Oswego County District Attorney Donald Dodd and state police Captain Mark Lincoln discuss arrests made in the Erin Maxwell death investigation.

Before she died Aug. 30, police say 11-year-old Erin Maxwell lived in difficult conditions at her home on Route 264 with her father, step-mother and step brother. Tuesday morning, police arrested Lindsey and Lynn Maxwell, charging each with six counts of endangering the welfare of a child. Lynn Maxwell’s son, Alan Jones was charged with second-degree murder for allegedly causing Erin’s death.
