Mayor Barlow Announces Grand Opening Of $10 Million William S. Cahill Pier

Mayor Billy Barlow announced today the grand opening of the William S. Cahill, Jr Pier in the City of Oswego. The $10 million construction project transforms an old abandoned coal trestle into a new, modern, waterfront park, allowing for public access from land, boating access from Lake Ontario, and additional fishing opportunities for visitors and residents. The pier also features a walking path down the middle, a boardwalk style path around the perimeter, and a decorative fountain towards the end. In addition, the city installed two more fire pit seating areas, unique statues, and electrical services to allow large boats and yachts to dock along the pier.

Mayor Barlow Proposes 2024 City Of Oswego Operating Budget With No Tax Increase

Mayor Billy Barlow has proposed his 2024 city operating budget to the Oswego Common Council, his seventh budget as Mayor. Mayor Barlow’s $60,807,855 spending plan, for the seventh consecutive year, calls for no increases to any taxes or fees. To date, the Barlow administration has yet to use the general fund to balance a budget, has issued one tax decrease in 2019 and successfully lower water and sewer bills for flat rate homeowners by $300.

Laura Lamb Of Oswego Published Research Article Recognized By IMA

Laura Lamb of Oswego was among The University of Scranton’s doctoral program students and graduates whose published research article was recognized by the Institute of Management Accountants’ (IMA). The research articles, three in all written with Douglas M. Boyle, DBA, chair of the Accounting Department and director of the Ph.D. in Accounting program at Scranton, were awarded a prestigious Lybrand Silver Medal and two Certificates of Merit.

Mayor Barlow Announces Start Of $2 Million Riverwalk Rehabilitation Project

Mayor Billy Barlow today announced the start of another construction project to repair, rehabilitate, and improve the northern section of the west linear riverwalk area behind the Oswego post office building. In 2019, the riverwalk was severally damaged due to significant, consistent flooding. The project includes the stabilization of the river’s edge, replacement of damaged retaining walls and sidewalks, as well as the rehabilitation of large stretches of railing along the riverwalk.
