Plane Crashes in Palermo, Serious Injuries Reported

A small plane has crashed in the town of Palermo Sunday afternoon, according to officials.

It happened at around 3:30 p.m. near 1988 County Route 45, Palermo.

The pilot suffered leg and chest injuries and was flown by helicopter to the hospital.  The passenger appeared to suffer less serious injuries, he said.

Leila E. Fineout, 97, formerly of the towns of Granby and Palermo, died in Oswego, Friday afternoon following a sudden brief illness.

Fire Destroys Barn In Palermo

Rick Grosvent photos.Rick Grosvent shared pictures with us of a barn fire in Palermo that happened late Tuesday afternoon.  Rick, who is an emergency medical technician and a photographer, said the fire was on Red School House Road, reported at around 5:00 p.m.  See a gallery of photos inside.

Photos: Erin Maxwell Park Equipment Dedication

DSC04401This will look like old news to you, but to me, it’s a case of “making amends”.  This photo, and a few more inside with the story, came from a recent dedication in Palermo of a bench and play equipment in honor of Erin Maxwell.  I was out of town that day and could not cover the event, so the organizer asked Susan Lanty, who had taken some pictures there, to share some with us.  She did, but I never saw them, until Wednesday night.
