Council To Consider Security Upgrades For Police, Water Departments
The police department is looking to purchase wireless video surveillance equipment. They also want to submit a proposal to the NYS Department of Criminal Justice Services for its “Operation IMPACT Tools” grant. The Water Department wants authorization to accept a State Office of Homeland Security Grant, to update its camera security system.

Teen Charged In Stabbing Incident
An 18-year-old woman is accused of stabbing a man in the shoulder early today. The injury doesn’t appear to be life-threatening, police said.

Parents in Sandy Creek have been arrested and their children temporarily removed from their home after an investigation revealed inadequate living conditions. Earl and Shirley Russell are slated to appear in Sandy Creek Town Court Thursday at 7 p.m.

A Neighborhood Watch involves a group of concerned citizens who work together by looking out for one another. The grassroots group has helped reduce and prevent crimes in their neighborhoods, organizers say. An informational meting is set for Oct. 14 to entice more residents to join.

Pennellville Man Charged With Possession
State police in Fulton arrested Harry E. Truax, 53, of 39 Hoyt Rd., Pennellville, Wednesday, charging him with second-degree criminal possession of marihuana, a class-D felony. The investigation evolved following a 911 call that Truax placed Oct. 3.

Mexico Man Charged In Shotgun Incident
Bryon Patchen had been distraught over a dispute with his ex-girlfriend, police say. He reportedly fired a 12-gauge shotgun into the side of an unoccupied, parked vehicle and fled the scene. No one was injured. He is being held at OCJ.

The attorney for the Maxwell family says while his clients continue to be cooperative with police in the investigation into the death of 11-year-old Erin Maxwell, there has been little reciprocation. While the family maintains the child’s death was a tragic accident, police continue to investigate her death as a homicide. More than a month after her death, no arrests have been made in the case.

The Oswego County Sheriff’s Department says Michael S. McCandless, 23, of 339 Main St., Phoenix, crossed from the southbound lane to the northbound lane at about 4:15 a.m. Sunday. Police say he nearly hit a police car head on.
