County Seeks Additional Wireless Revenues To Develop Statewide Communications Network

Oswego County is looking for the state’s cooperation in the development of a new comprehensive statewide interoperable communication network. To do that, a resolution has been presented, asking the state to tap the funding that is already collected through a Wireless Communications Service surcharge that the state imposes on cellular telephone bills.

Lawmakers Weigh In On NYS’ Use Of 911 Service Fee Fund

The state’s reported misuse of monthly cellular phone service fees has Oswego County legislators hot under the collar. Originally imposed as a way to fund wireless technology upgrades for 911 call centers, the state is reportedly using the money for a laundry list of expenses while counties see a fraction of the collections. Now, local lawmakers are drafting a letter to the state to take a stand on the issue and stress that it has used the account as its personal piggy bank for too long.

Without Additional Pre-K Students, Fulton Will Have To Return State Dollars

The benefit of additional state aid for the Universal Pre-Kindergarten program in Fulton may soon be lost if the district doesn’t receive a few more students. The district has to enroll 162 students by Oct. 1 or cut a refund check to the state for a portion of state aid money received for the 2008-09 school year. As of Friday, the district was approximately a dozen students short of that goal.
