The heat is on! With hot and humid weather in the forecast this week across the region, AAA Western and Central New York is reminding motorists to be aware of the dangers of hot cars. On average, 38 children (under age 15) die in hot cars every year according to the National Safety Council, which reported 33 such deaths in 2022 and 14 so far in 2023. A couple attempts to create more savings at Wednesday’s legislature meeting failed. Plans to purchase 12 new vehilces for the sheriff’s department and new furniture for the DSS moved forward.

Oswego DPW Commissioner Seeks To Replenish Fleet

Oswego’s commissioner of the DPW and Parks & Recreation wants to replace some dilapidated city vehicles that have had to be removed from service because of their deteriorated condition.

At Monday night’s meeting of the Administrative Services Committee, Mike Smith, DPW commissioner, requested discussion regarding the purchase of several pieces of equipment. He gave councilors a list of five vehicles and sander box that he’d like to purchase. “This isn’t a wish list. These are things that I really need,” he said.
