Oswego kicked off a 200th anniversary commemoration on Saturday with the War of 1812 Symposium. The event, at The American Foundry, consisted of a series of lectures which focused on Oswego County’s role in the War of 1812. Several local historians and history buffs attended.
Members of the Common Council and Harborfest’s board vowed to keep the lines of communication open as they plan for the 2011 and 2012 festivals. The two sides also agreed to continue searching for alternative funding sources and ways to tighten their belts to keep the festival a viable option for thousands of people next summer.
The Friends of Fort Ontario will sponsor the May 8-9 War of 1812 commemoration event at Fort Ontario State Historic Site. Dr. Harold Youmans will be the featured speaker and will present a program on the May 5-7, 1814, Battle of Oswego on Saturday at 1:15 p.m. […]
