Donor Supports Oswego YMCA

Recently, the Oswego YMCA recieved a donation from Navy Veteran Jim Harbison for $10,000.00 to support Oswego Y programs. Harbison, an Oswego native, is a Navy Veteran having served in WWII believes "helping your community is important and I just want to help where I can."  At the Oswego  Y, strengthening community is our cause~Mr. Harbison's generous donation helps the Y do just that.   Every day we work side by side with neighbors in our community to make sure everyone, regardless of age, income or background has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive. Children Eat for Free This Summer; USDA, YMCA, OCSD Conduct Effort

The USDA, Oswego YMCA and the Oswego City School District School Lunch program have combined for a summer food program providing free breakfast and lunch to children under the age of 18. Jackie Sheffield of the YMCA, Vanessa Sheffield (YMCA Welcome Center staff member) and Oswego City School District School Lunch Director Dennis Jerome kicked off the summer.

“Food that’s in when school is out” is the theme of this summer’s effort to provide a healthy breakfast and lunch to teenagers and youngsters  18 years of age and under.

Oswego County Opportunities and Oswego Hospital conduct health fair dedicated to women’s health. It also reached out to the uninsured in the county. The event attracted dozens of people, women and men, to the Fulton YMCA.

Oswego’s Bookmobile Ready To Roll

The mission of the bookmobile is really quite simply. It’s about getting books to kids and empowering them to be great readers, organizers said. It will also prevent regression of students’ reading abilities over the summer, they added.

OCO To Host Women’s Health Fair June 4

Planning committee members meet to finalize the details for Oswego County Opportunities’ upcoming Women’s Health Fair. OCO’s Cancer Services Program invites women of all ages to attend a health fair designed exclusively for them. Scheduled for June 4, the event, which is free and open to the public, will be held at the Fulton YMCA, Route 3 West from 1 to 4 p.m.
